Mystery solved: Florida’s red substance is actually algae, officials say

The U.S.

Coast Guard is investigating a mysterious red substance that has entered the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach, with locals believing it to be kerosene but the Coast Guard not confirming this.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Nicholas Strasburg said investigators have yet to find the source of what caused the mysterious spill.

Aerial footage captured the substance, which appeared as a rust-colored slick floating along the Intracoastal Waterway just south of Florida Power & Lights heralded Manatee Lagoon.

The company that cleaned up the pollutant could not identify how it got into the water.
