Rogers Criticizes Slotkin’s Misguided Border Bill Stance: A Call to Reevaluate Immigration Policies

In a heated second U.S. Senate debate on Monday, former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) criticized Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) for claiming that the Senate immigration bill would secure the southern border of the United States. Slotkin asserted, “We’ve got to do more to secure our border,” and mentioned a “deal on the table” to achieve this, referring to the bipartisan Senate legislation supported by Democrats.

However, the failed border bill in question is actually an immigration piece of legislation that would allow up to 5,000 encounters at the border daily over a seven-day period before triggering a border emergency. In response, Rogers described the bill as “terrible” and said it was voted down by both parties due to its inadequacy. He emphasized that the legislation would guarantee two million illegal immigrants crossing the border each year, calling this idea “nonsense.

Furthermore, Rogers criticized Slotkin for not understanding the gravity of the situation at the border and the importance of addressing it. He urged her to speak with families affected by crimes committed by illegal immigrants, including those who have experienced the rape of their children by such individuals. This would help her grasp the urgency of the issue and realize that her current stance on the matter is inadequate.

In addition to discussing the Senate immigration bill, Rogers also called for the reinstatement of the Remain in Mexico policy, which was established during the Trump administration but later abandoned by the Biden administration. This policy required asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border to wait in Mexico while their claims were processed. By advocating for its return, Rogers aims to demonstrate a strong stance on securing the border and ensuring public safety.
