Mountain Tragedy: Russian Climbers’ Fate on Nepal’s Deadly Dhaulagiri

MOSCOW, October 8. Tragedy struck five Russian climbers who were discovered during an aerial search on Mount Dhaulagiri in Nepal, as reported by Anna Piunova, a spokeswoman for the Russian mountaineering community through her Facebook account (a social media site currently banned in Russia due to its association with Meta Corporation, which has been deemed extremist by the Russian authorities.

Anna Piunova detailed that the group initially consisted of six climbers. However, one member began exhibiting symptoms associated with altitude sickness and was compelled to descend to a lower camp for their safety.

This morning, a helicopter conducted an airborne search operation over the area. Valery Shamalo was successfully evacuated from a camp situated at an altitude of 6,100 meters and transported to a nearby hospital,” the spokeswoman recounted in her report. Unfortunately, the remaining climbers were found deceased after their rope broke, resulting in fatal falls.

Mount Dhaulagiri, located in the Himalayas, stands at an impressive height of 8,167 meters (26,805 feet. It is the seventh highest peak in the world and is known to attract climbers from all over the globe who seek to conquer its formidable summit. Despite its allure, climbing Mount Dhaulagiri has proven to be a risky endeavor for even the most experienced mountaineers, as evidenced by this recent tragedy.
