Kamala’s Tie-Breaking Vote: Did It Ignite Inflation

This week, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) surprised the hosts of The Breakfast Club with his claim that Vice President Kamala Harris played a significant role in causing the recent surge in inflation during the Joe Biden presidency. Addressing Charlamagne tha God, Donalds stated that Americans are struggling to make ends meet as a result of this inflation, which he attributed to Kamala Harris’ actions.

I would argue. We’re not really thriving right now. This inflation, which, by the way, was brought to us by Kamala Harris, has really slowed down people from being able to excel,” said Byron Donalds.

Charlamagne then inquired about how the vice president could be more responsible for inflation than President Joe Biden, prompting Donalds to explain that Kamala Harris provided the tie-breaking vote in the United States Senate for President Biden’s American rescue plan.

When Joe Biden wanted to do his American rescue plan, Kamala Harris was the tie breaking vote in the United States Senate. She broke the tie and started this inflation that has hurt so many people in our country,” said Donalds.

The congressman further cited a 2021 op-ed from former Bill Clinton treasury secretary Lawrence Summers to support his argument. Summers said that the American rescue plan that Joe Biden wanted, which Kamala Harris was a tie-breaking vote in the United States Senate, would create a massive inflation that we have not seen in a generation. Well, guess what? Larry Summers was correct,” Donalds added.

Donalds went on to detail how he had tried to warn the budget committee about the bill’s potential to cause inflation. I was in the budget committee when they brought the bill. And I said in that committee, it’s going to cause massive inflation. That’s what happened. So the problem that we have in our economy today is that prices have gone up massively. Wages adjusted for inflation is down. Peoples pocketbooks are hurting,” he explained.

The ongoing debate over the causes of inflation continues to be a critical issue, with many Americans feeling the financial strain as prices continue to rise. Byron Donalds’ accusation against Vice President Kamala Harris raises questions about the role of political figures in shaping economic policies and their impact on everyday lives.
