Kamala Harris Unveils Bold Immigration Proposals Amid Surge at U.S.-Mexico Border

Vice President Kamala Harris’s Remarks on Immigration in Douglas, Arizona.

Vice President Kamala Harris will be addressing the issue of immigration in her upcoming speech in Douglas, Arizona. The Biden-Harris administration has been grappling with the consequences of their policies at the U.S.-Mexico border, and this speech presents an opportunity for the Vice President to address these concerns directly.

The Vice President faces a delicate balancing act as she tries to promote her record on immigration without undermining the administration’s policies. However, she must also validate her candidacy by praising the work of the Biden-Harris administration in this area. In an interesting development, President Joe Biden recently revealed that he had delegated “everything” regarding foreign and domestic policy to Harris, highlighting her significant role within the administration.

Under the current administration, there has been a surge of migrants at the border, with authorities reportedly arresting around seven million people for illegally crossing into the United States from Mexico. Furthermore, almost two million known gotaways evaded U.S. Border Patrol agents, as per numbers released by Republicans on the House Committee on Homeland Security in April. The estimated population of undocumented migrants in the United States reached 11 million last year, according to estimates from Pew Research Center. Critics argue that these numbers could be even higher.

In light of this situation, Harris is expected to acknowledge the administration’s failure to adequately secure the border during her visit to the southern border region. Fox News polling revealed that more Arizona voters (15 points) trust former President Donald Trump over Harris in handling the crises at the border. In fact, Trump leads Harris overall by 3 percentage points among likely Arizona voters (48-51 percent.

To improve her polling numbers and address concerns about her record on immigration, Harris will outline a series of proposals during her speech. These include.

1. Arguing that American sovereignty requires setting rules at the border and enforcing them.

2. Calling for more resources for border patrol agents to effectively carry out their duties.

3. Proposing new detection machines for fentanyl at border entry ports.

4. Rejecting the notion of a false choice between securing the border and creating an immigration system that is safe, orderly, and humane.

5. Criticizing “Trump’s failures as president” to address this issue and his recent efforts to undermine bipartisan solutions to it. Harris will emphasize the need for a president who cares more about border security than playing political games.

During her visit, it is unclear if Vice President Harris will take any questions from the press. She has not held any press conferences since she entered the race in July. When asked about specific policy solutions to secure the southern border during a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harris evaded the question and provided an extensive response without addressing the issue directly.

The establishment media has raised concerns about Harris’s repeated attempts to avoid discussing her record on immigration. For example, on Monday, Harris aides refused to clarify if she still supports amnesty for two million undocumented migrants, often referred to as “dreamers,” who were brought into the United States as children.
