Diversity Divisions: Growing Resistance to Mass Migration and Its Impact on American Culture

Voter support for government-imposed civic diversity is rapidly declining as damaging migration instigated by President Joe Biden’s administration continues to escalate, according to a recent survey. The September 19-22 poll conducted by SSRS for CNN involved 2,074 registered voters and asked the following question: “Overall, do you think having an increasing number of people of many different races, ethnic groups, and nationalities in the U.S. is mostly (threatening) or mostly (enriching) American culture?” The results indicated that 66% agreed with the “enriching” answer – a significant drop from 82% in a similar survey conducted in 2019. Conversely, the percentage of respondents supporting the “threatening” response increased to 33%, up from just 11% in the previous year. The study found that Republicans were more likely to consider increasing diversity as threatening, with 55% expressing this viewpoint compared to only 11% of Democrats.

These two surveys reveal a 38-point national shift since 2019, despite the potential skewing caused by the pollsters’ choice of “threatening” as an alternative term to “enriching.” Other terms such as “chaotic” or “damaging” could have more accurately captured the growing public concern regarding the chaos and poverty resulting from the federal government’s mass-migration economic policies.

The survey also asked respondents if they believed that America’s best days were ahead or behind them, with 41% responding that the country’s best days were “behind us,” up from 22% in a 2019 survey. Only 12% stated that they were “very satisfied” with the influence people like themselves have on the political process, while 62% expressed dissatisfaction and 54% claimed that the government “does too much” for immigrants.

Progressive commentators are dismayed by the growing recognition among the public that government-imposed diversity can weaken citizens’ solidarity with each other. Notably, 55% of Republicans, 32% of independents, and 11% of Democrats identified “threatening” as their response to increasing diversity in the United States.

The Washington Post’s Philip Bump, a pro-migration columnist, acknowledged that Americans are discarding the Cold War notion of the U.S. being a “Nation of Immigrants.” Instead, they are reviving the once dominant recognition that the United States is a nation of citizens. Bump noted.

This survey is far from the only evidence of increasing anti-immigrant and anti-diversity sentiment. Americans as a whole have become more anti-immigration, as we’ve seen record-high illegal border crossings in recent years … and Americans have rallied to Trump’s concept of mass deportation.

Breitbart News has documented declining support for migration since 2016. For example, a June poll by YouGov showed that 38% of 1,595 U.S. citizens believed that immigration made the country “worse off,” while only 28% claimed it made the nation “better off.” The poll revealed a significant 30-point shift against migration since President Joe Biden’s deputies began opening many doors through the nation’s borders in 2021.
