Unraveling the Hidden Power: How the Administrative State is Chipping Away at American Democracy

In recent comments during an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday, Ned Ryun, the founder and CEO of American Majority and author of the upcoming book “American Leviathan,” emphasized the importance of understanding how unconstitutional and even un-American the administrative state has become. Ryun’s book delves into the birth of the administrative state and the progressive movement approximately 100 years ago, which he believes is at its core about weakening the U.S. Constitution, undermining the separation of powers, and hollowing out the republic in favor of an administrative state dominated by unelected bureaucrats.

Ryun argues that these bureaucrats are effectively detached from political accountability to the American people and their duly elected representatives. He contends that the progressive movement’s aim was always to have this unelected managerial class govern the country, replacing the constitutional republic where power is derived from the people and handed off to their elected officials. The ongoing conflict between former President Donald Trump and the political establishment highlights this struggle between a constitutional republic and an administrative state, with the key question being: who decides.

Ryun believes that for decades, Americans have lived under the illusion of still being in a constitutional Republic, while in reality, Washington, D.C., has become an administrative state. This raises important questions about governance and political power, as well as the balance between democratic representation and unelected bureaucratic control.
