As for Harris’s claim about the Central Park Five, it is true that Trump called for the death penalty in general terms but not specifically for those defendants. Breitbart News fact-checked this assertion when it was made by Democrats during their convention last month. The Central Park Five were accused of a horrific crime, but the guilt of these individuals has been disputed over the years.
Trump did call for the death penalty in response to the Central Park case; however, he specifically did not call for the execution of those defendants. Trump’s rebuttal to this claim highlighted that some of the Central Park Five had confessed their guilt at the time.
