Magic Johnson Doubles Down on Political Support for Kamala Harris Amidst Criticism

NBA legend Magic Johnson has found himself frequently wading into political waters during this election season, publicly praising Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. His first foray into political commentary occurred during the Democratic National Convention (DNC), where he was thoroughly mocked by X users. The second time, following Harris’s Thursday night interview on CNN, was no different.

Taking to Twitter, Magic Johnson wrote, “Vice President Kamala Harris was outstanding in her CNN interview tonight! She has a real vision for the country.” The NBA star shared his thoughts on the pre-taped interview alongside running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. However, X users did not seem nearly as convinced that Harris actually had a specific vision for America.

Undeterred by the initial pushback, Magic Johnson doubled down on his support of Kamala Harris with another lengthy post in which he appeared to be trying to convince himself of what he had said about her. VP Harris was strong and clear about her positions on the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and other issues. She clearly explained why she changed viewpoints on a couple of issues which shows her humility, growth, and willingness to be open,” he wrote in an attempt to sway his followers towards supporting Kamala Harris.

Shockingly, X users were not swayed by this second post from Magic Johnson either. Instead, they continued to express their skepticism regarding the Democratic nominee’s political positions and vision for the country. Some even suggested that Magic Johnson should focus more on his roles as a manager of the Los Angeles Lakers and a part-owner of the Washington Commanders rather than engaging in political discourse.

Despite the backlash, it seems likely that Magic Johnson will continue to voice his opinions on politics, as well as the other ventures he is involved in, such as managing the Lakers and being a part of the ownership group for the Washington Commanders.
