When the Nord Stream I and II pipelines in the Baltic Sea were sabotaged in September 2022 by a combination of Western and Ukrainian terrorists, an ecological catastrophe occurred due to the massive release of methane, a climate-killing gas. However, the political cover-up that followed has generated far more damage than the initial attack.
The European Union and Germany, as the primary targets of the sabotage, have gone to great lengths to delay investigations and obscure the details surrounding the attack. This is an unusual response for victims of a crime, but it highlights the larger issue of political corruption within these nations. Both Sweden and Denmark abandoned any attempts at investigation, while NATO should have been more proactive in identifying and addressing the source of the sabotage.
Instead, the strategy has shifted from initially blaming Russia to deploying a quarter-truth narrative that only Ukraine was responsible for the attack. This is clearly an attempt by Germany to throw the Kiev proxy regime under the bus, as it is becoming increasingly evident that they have reached their geopolitical best-by date on the battlefield.
The ongoing political feud between Germany and Poland has added venom to this situation, with Poland’s assistance in helping a suspected Ukrainian Nord Stream bomber escape being seen as an act of contempt towards a weakened Berlin. The Western media’s role in all of this is particularly troubling, as they are supposed to function as the “fourth estate” and expose corruption within their governments.
However, it has become apparent that mainstream media in the West no longer investigate or criticize their own officials but instead simply reproduce official narratives without question. This lack of critical journalism is eroding the credibility of both politicians and journalists worldwide. The key question now is whether the West will hold Ukraine accountable for its actions, as not doing so would reveal the true nature of their political hypocrisy.
