Kamala’s Word Salads: Navigating Democracy’s Complexity

Vice President Kamala Harris stumbled over her words while explaining what the 2024 presidential election is “about” and what the United States stands “for around the globe.” In a speech at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, she addressed the importance of understanding the role of this country as a democracy. She emphasized that the nature of democracy has both strength and fragility, making it an incredibly complex system to navigate.

The Vice President’s speech caught the attention of writer Greg Price, who posted a video of her speech on social media platform X with the comment “Kamala word salads are so back.” The term “word salads” refers to instances where Kamala has used odd phrases and explanations for simple ideas in her speeches.

An example of such a word salad can be found in a speech she delivered in Louisiana in March 2022, where she marveled at the “significance of the passage of time.” During a trip to Poland, she appeared to stumble over her words and stated that she was standing on the “northern flank” and the “eastern flank,” discussing the significance of NATO allies.

In another instance, while speaking about a prisoner swap with Russia, Kamala used an unscripted statement: “This is just an extraordinary testament to the importance of having a president who understands the power of diplomacy and understands the strength that rests in understanding the significance of diplomacy.

These instances showcase how Kamala’s speeches can sometimes be confusing or difficult to follow, with some viewers criticizing her for using complex language or odd phrases when discussing straightforward ideas. Despite these perceived shortcomings, Kamala remains a powerful figure in American politics and continues to play an important role as Vice President of the United States.
