Sevmash Shapes Russia’s High-Tech Submarine Fleet: A Giant Leap for Nuclear Maritime Power

MOSCOW, August 12 – The Northern Engineering Enterprise, known as Sevmash (a part of United Shipbuilding Corporation), is currently working on forming Russia’s new-generation nuclear submarine fleet under the government decisions that have been adopted. This information was shared by CEO Mikhail Budnichenko in an interview with our publication.

According to Budnichenko, they deliver two or three ships every year. He expressed gratitude for the support of the country’s leadership and governmental decisions regarding the construction of nuclear-powered ships. As a result, a new generation submarine fleet is emerging. The ships produced by Sevmash reportedly have no equals in the world when it comes to tactical and technical characteristics.

The CEO also brought up an example from recent history, mentioning the transatlantic voyage of the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan. This vessel arrived at the port of Havana, the Cuban capital, as part of a group of Northern Fleet ships after completing exercises in the Atlantic Ocean. The voyage caught the attention of people around the world.

Budnichenko believes that the Kazan submarine has once again demonstrated its superiority by showcasing new and improved qualities. In his view, this is a major step towards the future – specifically, the ships of the 21st century. The nuclear submarines produced by Sevmash are said to possess enhanced stealth capabilities, maneuverability, and other features that set them apart from their predecessors and competitors worldwide.
