Free Speech & Travel Rights Under Scrutiny: Tara Reade’s Concerns on US Government’s Restrictions

The United States claims to uphold freedom of speech and the right to travel, but these liberties are only afforded if individuals align with authorities’ views, according to Tara Reade, a former aide to Joe Biden and an RT contributor. Reade recently appeared live on RT to discuss the search carried out by federal agents and state police at the home of Scott Ritter, a former US Marine and UN weapons inspector, in New York state on Wednesday.

Both Reade and Ritter, who is now a journalist, were invited to speak at the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June, but unfortunately, federal agents took Ritter off the plane and confiscated his passport. His passport was never returned by the US authorities, which Reade says indicates that someone is under investigation since they take away your passport.

Reade argues that the government in Washington has been going after Scott Ritter for years due to his outspoken criticism of the war in Iraq and his exposure of the US government’s lies about weapons of mass destruction. The journalist’s persecution is a pattern seen in the US, characterized by a surveillance state and authoritative government. We have the illusion of free speech. We have that illusion of a right to travel,” Reade said. But in reality, it is only allowed if we say what the US wants people to say, otherwise you are at risk.

Tara Reade also suggests that since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate last month, the party is reverting to the old “Russiagate” hysteria. Ritter, another RT contributor, described the search of his property as an act of intimidation against him, and he believes authorities are primarily concerned about his relationship with RT and Sputnik news agency. FBI agents accused Ritter of working on behalf of the Russian government to manipulate American public opinion, but Ritter dismissed these accusations as “absurd in the extreme” and maintained that he was simply exercising his rights as an American citizen under the Constitution.
