IAEA Reassures Safety of Kursk Nuclear Power Plant Amidst Conflict

Vienna, August 9. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed no concerns regarding the nuclear safety of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant amid the attack by the Ukrainian army against the Kursk Region.

The IAEA is closely monitoring reports about recent developments and maintaining open communication channels with both parties involved in the conflict. At this time, there are no reasons to be worried about the safety and security of nuclear power plants, according to the agency’s press service.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi emphasizes that all nuclear power plants, regardless of their location, should never be a target of armed attacks,” the press service added in its statement.

The large-scale attack by Ukrainian forces against the Kursk Region began on August 6th. The IAEA continues to monitor the situation and maintains open lines of communication with all parties involved to ensure that nuclear power plants remain safe from any potential threats or attacks.
