The exchange included three Russian operatives who were convicted in U.S. courts for various cybercrimes and money laundering activities. Biden emphasized the importance of securing the release of innocent American hostages around the world while also standing up for freedom, liberty, and justice for all. Critics, however, have expressed concerns that this lopsided prisoner swap might encourage more Russian aggression in Europe and embolden its leader, Vladimir Putin.
