California’s Driver’s Licenses: Fueling Crime in Virginia

The sanctuary state of California recently issued a driver’s license to the now accused carjacker and murderer of 54-year-old Melody Waldecker, mother of four and grandmother of eight, in Loudoun County, Virginia. Breitbart News reported that 21-year-old illegal alien Jose Aguilar-Martinez from El Salvador was arrested and charged with felony carjacking in connection with the death of Melody Waldecker of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Friends have set up a GoFundMe page for Waldecker’s family, and Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman has revealed that Aguilar-Martinez was issued a driver’s license by the sanctuary state of California. Since 2015, California has been providing driver’s licenses to more than a million illegal aliens in an attempt to ensure they are not turned over to law enforcement for driving without a license and therefore susceptible to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions.

Sheriff Chapman stated that “This is another reminder of why it is essential that localities collaborate with our federal counterparts charged with enforcing U.S. immigration laws.” Between fiscal years 2023 and 2024, ICE agents have issued nearly 500 detainers for illegal aliens in Loudoun County’s custody. Over this period, ICE took custody of almost 250 of those illegal aliens, and close to 100 have been deported thus far.

On July 28, Waldecker stopped at a 7-Eleven around 11:30 a.m. in Sterling, Virginia, after visiting her sick mother. As she walked into the 7-Eleven, she noticed Aguilar-Martinez attempting to break into her parked car. When Waldecker tried to stop him, police allege that Aguilar-Martinez hit and killed Waldecker with the vehicle while fleeing the scene. Officers found Waldecker dead at the site of the incident, and Aguilar-Martinez was arrested approximately 45 minutes later.

Aguilar-Martinez remains at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bail, with ICE agents placing a detainer on him, requesting custody if he is released from jail at any time. Investigators mentioned that additional charges might be filed against Aguilar-Martinez.
