Democrats Rally To Take Down Alito’s Flag

The heated controversy surrounding conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has prompted some Democrats to call for Congress to take decisive action against him, with the possibility of impeachment being discussed.

This comes amidst reports that an upside-down American flag and a “Stop The Steal” flag were flown outside his home on January 17, 2021, shortly before President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

In response to these allegations, Justice Alito spoke with Fox News about the situation, asserting that he was not involved in flying the flags.

He explained that it all began around January 6 when a neighbor displayed a sign near a kid’s bus stop that stated “F— Trump.” Following this incident, his wife, Martha-Ann, had a conversation with those neighbors about the sign, which was apparently met with hostility.

Justice Alito further explained that these same neighbors then displayed a sign blaming Mrs.

Alito for the events of January 6.

When she walked by them during another instance, they got into an argument, using profane language.

In response to this confrontation, Martha-Ann decided to display an upside-down American flag and a “Stop The Steal” flag in retaliation; however, these flags were only on the property for a short period of time.

Despite the justice’s explanation, some Democrats are still calling for action against him.

Senator Richard Blumenthal expressed his frustration with Justice Alito during an appearance on MSNBC, emphasizing the importance of holding President Trump accountable for his alleged involvement in the insurrection against the United States government.

He criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to slow-walk the case and stated that it demonstrated a clear lack of impartiality.

Minnesota Democrat Governor Tim Walz also expressed shock at the situation, stating that he was “stunned” that they would have to hear a Supreme Court justice explain why his wife flew an upside-down American flag in response to the insurrection.

Senator Dick Durbin called for Justice Alito to recuse himself immediately from cases related to the 2020 election and January 6th insurrection, including the question of former President Trump’s immunity.

Finally, Rhode Island Sen.

Sheldon Whitehouse highlighted the potential consequences if a judge on any other federal court had displayed such behavior, pointing out that it would call into question their ability to fairly decide a case.

With these concerns raised, it remains uncertain what actions Congress will take against Justice Alito in response to this situation.
