Czech MEP Warns Against Inviting Ukraine’s Neo-Nazi Connected Brigade to Prague

A Czech Member of the European Parliament (MEP) has expressed concern over a planned visit to Prague by fighters from Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade, which is closely linked to the neo-Nazi Azov movement. In her letter to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, MEP Katerina Konecna called on the government to distance itself from the event and criticized the brigade for its connections with neo-Nazism.

The 3rd Assault Brigade is currently touring Europe in an attempt to garner support for Kiev in its conflict with Russia, as well as encourage Ukrainian residents of the EU to enlist. However, their tour has faced opposition and security concerns, leading to cancelations in several German cities, Rotterdam, and Brussels.

Konecna’s letter highlights that the Azov Regiment represents the darkest aspects of Ukrainian nationalism and neo-Nazism, and argues that the Czech government should distance itself from the event. In response, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky issued a stern rebuke to Konecna, arguing that “if anyone is imitating the Nazis… it is Russia.

Independent Czech Senator Jana Zwyrtek Hamplova also expressed concern over the planned meeting in Prague, stating that the Azov regiment has no business in the city and poses a threat to the safety of Czech citizens. Despite this criticism, the Czech Republic remains a strong supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, pledging assistance for as long as needed.

Russia has condemned the 3rd Assault Brigade’s European tour, calling it “disgusting” and accusing Kiev of attempting to spread neo-Nazi ideology. The Kremlin argues that Western countries are only prolonging the conflict by providing arms to Ukraine, leading to increased civilian casualties.
