Russia Open for Talks with Ukraine: Clarity Needed Before Progress

Russia is open for negotiations with Ukraine, as stated by Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov during an interview with reporters. However, he emphasizes the need for a clear understanding of Ukraine’s readiness and permission from their handlers to engage in such discussions. The spokesman expressed concerns over the inconsistent statements made regarding the matter, highlighting that things are not entirely clear at this point.

This statement follows the announcement by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, who mentioned Ukraine’s preparation for talks with Russia during a meeting with top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi. According to the foreign minister, these talks should be “rational, substantive and aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.

Peskov addressed concerns about communication restrictions between the two countries, pointing out that a ban on communication with Russia is still in place in Ukraine. He emphasized that there are many aspects of potential talks that need to be clarified before any progress can be made towards a possible negotiation process.
