Judge Slams Dems’ Effort to Stop Wisconsin’s Strict Voter ID Law

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit claiming that Wisconsin’s requirement for witnesses to sign for absentee voters contradicts federal law.

U.S.

District Judge James Peterson stated that the claims made by the plaintiffs, four voters represented by Democrat firm Elias Law Group, were based on misinterpretations of the law.

The Voting Rights Act states that “no citizen shall be denied, because of his failure to comply with any test or device, the right to vote in any federal, state, or local election conducted in any state or political subdivision of a state.” However, Judge Peterson clarified that Wisconsin’s law does not require witnesses to certify a voter’s eligibility but only confirm certain procedural steps.

The judge dismissed the lawsuit, stating that it relied on an inconsistent interpretation of the statute and held no legal merit.
