Carter’s Grandson Delivers Grim Update on Former President’s Health

Former President Jimmy Carter’s Grandson Announces His Grandfather is ‘Coming to the End.

Jimmy Carter, the oldest living former president of the United States, has been in hospice care since February 2023.

Speaking at the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum on Tuesday, his grandson Jason Carter revealed that the 99-year-old is nearing the end of his journey.

Jason Carter, who serves as the chair of the board of trustees for the Carter Center, shared some personal reflections about his grandparents during his speech at the event.

He mentioned how he asked Jimmy Carter, a former peanut farmer, how he was doing while watching an Atlanta Braves game on television.

The former president responded with uncertainty, saying “I don’t know,” which Jason Carter found relatable as he is unsure about his grandfather’s condition as well.

In recent years, the 39th U.S.

president has been living in his Georgia home under hospice care.

His wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, had joined him in end-of-life care until her death in November.

According to Jason Carter, Jimmy Carter is doing okay but appears to be well considering the circumstances he is facing at this stage of life.

This isn’t the first time Jason Carter has mentioned his grandfather’s condition being near its end; back in November, he speculated that Jimmy Carter was “coming to the end” ahead of Rosalynn’s funeral service.

At that time, the grandson also pointed out that the former president appeared to be “very, very physically diminished,” as evidenced by his frail state during the services held for his wife.

Rosalynn Carter was buried on a plot visible from the front porch of the home she and her husband built in Plains before Jimmy Carter’s first political campaign back in 1962.

Jason Carter expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support the family received both during Rosalynn’s funeral and throughout their time grieving her loss.

As Jimmy Carter approaches his centennial birthday, he has already survived metastatic brain and liver cancer.

Despite these challenges, he continues to inspire hope and resilience among those who know him best.
