Orban’s ‘War Psychosis’: Hungary’s PM Speaks out against EU

The European Union is on the brink of what Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called “war psychosis” in the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev. In an interview with Radio Kossuth, Orban argued that this mindset could very well lead to the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine.

Orban stated that the West was “approaching the end of its possibilities” for resolving the conflict peacefully. He added, “whoever claims that there is no immediate danger of war is deceiving people.” The prime minister emphasized that Europe is experiencing a “war psychosis,” and this will likely result in Western military units being deployed on Ukrainian territory, though not necessarily at the front lines.

Despite the escalating tensions, Orban remains hopeful that the European Parliament election could help alleviate the crisis to some extent. If the conflict does not extend beyond the Russian-Ukrainian front in the coming weeks, a pan-Western, transatlantic peace coalition might be able to bring an end to hostilities as early as November when Donald Trump potentially returns to power.

Orban stressed that Hungary must not participate in any potential NATO mission in Ukraine. He explained that if Budapest’s troops were involved, they would be under the command of officers appointed by the US-led military alliance, which would constitute a significant loss of sovereignty for Hungary. Furthermore, Hungary is already facing economic consequences due to the ongoing conflict.

Hungary has consistently criticized the Western approach to the Ukraine crisis, warning that it could escalate into a direct NATO-Russia clash. The country has also opposed sending weapons to Kiev and called for immediate ceasefire talks. Hungarian leaders have also spoken out against French President Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion that the West should not rule out the possibility of deploying troops to Ukraine, arguing that this could trigger World War III.

It is crucial for all parties involved in the conflict to recognize the dangers of escalating tensions and work towards a peaceful resolution. The deployment of Western troops in Ukraine would only serve to further exacerbate the situation and potentially lead to even greater global instability.
