Hunter’s Explicit Memoir Excerpts Lead to His Prosecution in Court

During the recent gun trial for Hunter Biden, prosecutors made use of multiple explicit excerpts from his audiobook to demonstrate evidence of his drug addiction during the time period he purchased a firearm. As part of their strategy, they relied on the fact that the former vice president’s son narrated the audiobook himself. NBC News reported that Hunter Biden was essentially the primary witness in the case through these recordings.

The excerpts played by the prosecution included self-descriptions by Hunter as having a “superpower” of being able to buy crack in any town, and his discussion on how buying crack in high crime neighborhoods was like playing Russian roulette with five bullets in the chamber. These recordings were difficult for those present in the courtroom; first lady Jill Biden and Hunter’s wife Melissa Cohen Biden were both forced to listen to them. The two women remained stoic while listening, according to CNN’s report.

After the trial took a lunch break, first lady Jill Biden left the courthouse; she had attended her stepson’s trial for the second day in a row. In contrast, Hunter Biden appeared absorbed in pages from a binder as he flipped through them, with many jurors taking notes based on the court reporters’ observations.

As their first witness, the prosecution presented FBI special agent Erika Jensen, who will likely be used to confirm digital evidence in this case, including “embarrassing and intensely personal messages and images from Hunter Biden’s laptop.” Jensen authenticated bank statements from Hunter’s Wells Fargo account, which showed ATM withdrawals made in April 2019. These transactions proved that Hunter was located in Washington DC and California during that time period.

Hunter Biden is currently charged with one count of false statement in the purchase of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance, and one count of false statement related to information required to be kept by a federal firearms licensed dealer. Prosecutors claimed that he used crack when he purchased the gun, and it was found discarded in a public trash can next to a school. The Secret Service is said to have intervened in this investigation.

The case is United States v. Hunter Biden, No. 24-1703, in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
