Vice President Kamala Harris’s Favorability Rating Declines Amid Election Approach

Vice President Kamala Harris’s favorability rating has been on the decline with less than a month left until the presidential election, according to recent polls by NBC News and ABC News/Ipsos. Both surveys show that the vice president has lost significant ground since September in terms of her overall popularity among registered voters.

In the NBC News survey, Harris’s favorability rating is currently six points underwater, with 43% of respondents viewing her positively and 49% seeing her negatively. This marks a notable decrease in popularity compared to the September 13-17 poll conducted by NBC News, which found that 48% of respondents had favorable perceptions of Harris while 45% viewed her unfavorably. This equates to a significant nine-point swing in the wrong direction for the vice president’s favorability rating in less than a month.

Alongside this change, both Trump and Harris have seen drastic shifts in their standing within the presidential race. In NBC News’s latest poll conducted from October 4-8 among 1,000 registered voters (with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points), both candidates are now tied at 48% each – a significant shift from the September poll when Harris led Trump with 49% to his 44.

Similarly, the ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted between October 4-8 also depicted a decline in Harris’s favorability rating. In this poll of 2,226 registered voters (with a margin of error of ±2 percentage points), 44% of respondents said they had favorable views of Harris while a plurality of 47% viewed her negatively – a decrease of three points compared to the September 11-13 ABC News/Ipsos poll, which found her favorability rating at 47.

In addition, topline results in the presidential race have shifted in Trump’s favor within the ABC News/Ipsos survey. In September, Harris led Trump with 50% to his 46%, but now she only holds a slim lead of 49% to his 47.

These recent polls by NBC News and ABC News/Ipsos suggest that Kamala Harris’s favorability rating has taken a hit as the election nears, while both Trump and Harris have seen significant shifts in their standings within the race for the presidency.
