Criminal Justice Book Plagiarism: Kamala Harris Under Scrutiny

Dr. Stefan Weber, a renowned “plagiarism hunter,” has found that Kamala Harris plagiarized at least a dozen sections of her criminal justice book, Smart on Crime, as reported by Christopher Rufo. The non-fiction work, co-authored with Joan O’C Hamilton in 2009, outlines Harris’ vision for the criminal justice system and was published as she began her 2010 campaign for California Attorney General.

In his report, Dr. Weber states that Kamala Harris copied nearly an entire Wikipedia article into her book without providing proper attribution to Wikipedia. Most alarmingly, she fabricated a source reference by inventing a nonexistent page number. The full report can be found here.

Rufo provides further examples of plagiarism in Harris’ work that are astonishing.

This discovery comes just two months after the Harris campaign was caught plagiarizing Joe Biden’s campaign website by copying and pasting his issues into their issue page. Plagiarizing someone else’s ideas, research, or text without proper attribution is a significant offense, especially for a presidential candidate in the midst of an election season.

These incidents are reminiscent of Joe Biden’s own plagiarism scandal back in 1988 that cost him his chance to survive the Democrat primary. The Trump campaign has already capitalized on this issue and is expected to exploit it further as a political advantage.

The corporate media is likely to either ignore or attempt to debunk this controversy, but this is not the first time a candidate with plagiarism issues has risen through the ranks without being exposed by the media. This scandal highlights the need for better vetting of candidates and increased scrutiny from the press. The Trump campaign should use this report as an opportunity to shed light on Harris’ lack of originality and authenticity, further discrediting her candidacy.
