FEMA Criticized: Billions for Migrants, Not Hurricane Victims

As Hurricane Helene devastates the South and East, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been criticized for its lack of aid to affected Americans while billions are being spent on accommodating migrants. DHS Chief Alejandro Mayorkas is facing backlash after stating that FEMA has no funds left to help disaster victims, even though billions have been spent on providing food, housing, and clothing for migrants at taxpayers’ expense.

The Biden-Harris administration has loosened federal immigration restrictions, allowing millions of migrants to enter the country without being labeled “illegal.” This has led to a significant increase in Haitian migration into towns across Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other states. Many Haitians are drawn to these communities by low-paying jobs and federal housing subsidies.

The impact of this influx on local housing markets was discussed during the recent Vice-Presidential debate, with GOP nominee JD Vance arguing that the Biden border crisis drives up the cost of housing for everyday Americans. CBS moderators attempted to debunk this claim but have since been substantiated as true by numerous sources.

State governments across the country are struggling to cope with the costs associated with Biden’s migrants, including New York, Illinois, and Colorado. As Mayorkas claims FEMA is out of money, he has spent billions on housing for these illegals all over America. In one instance, the agency spent $640 million on a program to house undocumented immigrants.

Several Republicans have criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s use of FEMA funds for purposes not related to disaster relief. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) told Breitbart News that vital funding is being taken away from American citizens who need help after natural disasters like Hurricane Helene.

It was estimated last year that Joe Biden’s border crisis had cost US taxpayers $200 billion, and this year sources say the cost has been an additional $400 billion. The crisis affects individual states as well, with local governments incurring costs of around $150.7 billion to deal with the migrant influx.

Former President Donald Trump condemned the misuse of FEMA’s budget on illegals, accusing the current administration of diverting funds meant for disaster relief to secure votes from undocumented immigrants in upcoming elections. Rep. Nancy Mace (R, SC) has filed a bill aimed at stopping FEMA’s spending on housing for illegals amid these concerns.
