EVgo Charges Ahead with $1B Loan Guarantee, Amidst Criticism over FEMA’s Crisis Response

Los Angeles-based EVgo Inc., one of the leading providers of public fast charging services for electric vehicles (EVs), has seen its shares surge by 64% following news that it secured a conditional loan guarantee worth up to $1.05 billion from the US Department of Energy (DOE. The funding boost is expected to bolster EVgo’s expansion plans, with the company currently operating over 850 fast charging locations across more than 60 metropolitan areas in 34 states.

EVgo has forged partnerships with automakers, fleet and rideshare operators, retail hosts, and public entities to expand its network and promote EV adoption. This significant development in the electric vehicle charging infrastructure comes amidst concerns about the Biden-Harris administration’s focus on EVs while many American citizens continue to suffer due to paltry FEMA aid following Hurricane Helene.

Despite the Biden-Harris regime’s push for EVs, many Americans have voiced their dissatisfaction with the lack of support provided by FEMA in the aftermath of natural disasters such as Hurricane Helene. Republican Representative Tom Tiffany (R-WI) criticized the administration, stating that “illegal migrants come first, and Americans come last” under the current leadership.

Wisconsin is experiencing the negative impact of Biden’s migration policies through increased crime rates, deadly road accidents, inflation driving up costs, factory closures, and job losses moving to other states. The situation has been further exacerbated by FEMA’s response to Hurricane Helene, with reports indicating that hundreds, if not thousands, of service members were deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina but have sat idle, waiting for FEMA’s orders.

In a letter addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Republican Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) highlighted that FEMA aid was withheld during the hurricane season, which only worsened the emergency situation. He also pointed out that NGOs had purchased airline tickets for migrants using FEMA funds instead of prioritizing funding for Americans impacted by disasters.

Gaetz criticized Mayorkas’s statement claiming that FEMA did not “have enough funds to make it through” the hurricane season, especially given the fact that the organization had already spent hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on migrants due to Kamala Harris’ open border policy. As a result, many American citizens continue to suffer in the face of limited assistance from FEMA and an administration seemingly more focused on promoting electric vehicles than supporting disaster relief efforts for its citizens.
