Stay Indoors: DeSantis Urges Caution as Category 4 Hurricane Helene Strikes Florida’s West Coast

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) addressed the state’s residents and members of the media late Thursday night after Hurricane Helene made landfall on the west coast of the Sunshine State. Speaking at a press conference, the governor urged people to remain indoors and avoid going outside during the dangerous weather conditions.

It’s very dangerous conditions out there,” DeSantis said. You need to be, right now, just hunkering down. Now is not the time to be going out. Not only are we seeing it hit landfall here in Northern Florida, you’re still seeing a surge in water rising in parts of Florida far south.

The governor further emphasized the risks associated with driving during a storm and urged people to stay off the roads until conditions improve. We typically, unfortunately, will have fatalities in every storm,” he said. When you are out on the roads in the middle of one of these storms, that is very, very dangerous.

As reported by Breitbart News on Thursday, Hurricane Helene has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds reaching 130 mph. This powerful storm could make history as the first known Category 4 hurricane to hit Florida’s Big Bend region since records began in 1851, according to USA Today.

Governor DeSantis urged Floridians to take precautions and stay informed about the latest developments regarding Hurricane Helene as it continues to impact the state. Residents are advised to closely monitor local weather updates and adhere to instructions provided by emergency management officials in their respective areas.
