Kamala’s Crusade: The Historic Proposition H & Tough Gun Control Measures

Kamala Harris, the District Attorney of San Francisco at the time, backed a city-level proposition aimed at banning the possession of handguns. This ban was encompassed in Proposition H. The Mercury News reported on November 4, 2005 that although Mayor Gavin Newsom had not taken a stand, several of the city’s most liberal leaders were supporting this comprehensive ban, including District Attorney Kamala Harris and four supervisors who acted as sponsors of the proposal.

The ban, which was put forth by Kamala Harris, necessitated that city residents hand over all their handguns within a period of four months. The New York Post noted that the ban had been approved by San Francisco voters on Election Day in 2005 but was struck down by state courts before it could be implemented.

In a related development on September 18, 2024, Breitbart News highlighted that while serving as the District Attorney of San Francisco, Harris also supported stringent firearm storage gun control measures. In fact, she went so far as to inform San Francisco residents that their legal ownership of guns would not shield them from police searches in their homes to ensure compliance with gun control laws.

Harris stated, “…just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home…doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.
