Trump’s Second Near-Miss: A Surge in Public Support Amidst a Close Race with Vice President Harris

In recent developments, the former President Donald Trump has experienced an uptick in public opinion following his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris and a second assassination attempt against him. A national survey conducted by RMG Research on behalf of Napolitan News found that Trump’s support has grown by one percentage point, bringing him within two points of Harris, who holds 50% to Trump’s 48. The previous week’s survey had shown a four-point difference between the two candidates.

As the vice president currently leads by only two percentage points, the significance of this shift in popularity is quite considerable. A two-point popular vote victory for Harris would render the electoral college race as uncertain; however, with a four-point victory, she would be favored to win the electoral college. This survey was conducted between September 16th and 19th, 2024, among 2,969 registered voters, and has a ± 1.8 percent margin of error.

The latest survey results come on the heels of an attempted assassination against Trump, which led to the arrest of suspect Ryan Wesley Routh in Florida. He was spotted in bushes on the edge of Trump’s golf course. In response to these events, Trump publicly expressed his gratitude for surviving the second assassination attempt: “God has now spared my life. It must have been God — not once but twice.

During a rally in Uniondale, New York, Trump further elaborated on how this near-death experience has strengthened his resolve and conviction to serve as President. He stated that these incidents have only hardened his resolve to use his time on earth to make America great again for all Americans, emphasizing the importance of putting America first in his political agenda.
