Florida Takes Charge: Boosting Trust in Justice for Trump’s Security

Florida’s investigation into the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump is seen as a necessary step to bolster confidence in the justice system. Attorney General Ashley Moody revealed that Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) views the investigation as essential, not only for determining charges but also for restoring trust and confidence in the criminal justice system.

DeSantis believes that Florida’s involvement is crucial at this stage, given the national context. The governor stated that he does not think it is in the best interest of the state or nation to have the same federal agencies leading the investigation, especially when the most serious offense would constitute a violation of state law but not federal law. Moody agreed with this sentiment and emphasized the importance of ensuring that both the American people and Floridians are confident that every effort is being made to protect Trump’s life.

Meanwhile, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) disclosed some concerns among his colleagues about a potential “mole” within the Secret Service following the assassination attempt. He also shared information from a senior DHS official who revealed that there are at least five known assassination teams in the United States targeting Trump, with three being foreign and two domestic. Gaetz expressed concern over the lack of adequate force protection for the former president and suggested that the Secret Service may not be providing sufficient support.
