Biden-Harris DHS Faces Criticism Over Release of Honduran Alleged Rapist

A young man, Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana from Honduras, was accused of horrendous crimes including the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Kenner, Louisiana, and stabbing a man during an armed robbery. Despite this heinous act, Castellanos-Orellana had been released into the United States by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), even though there was available detention space to keep him in federal custody.

The House Judiciary Committee issued a report highlighting this case, expressing significant concern about the disastrous immigration policies enforced by the Biden-Harris administration, which they claim have resulted in grave real-life consequences for American citizens. The effects of these policies will be felt for years to come as criminal aliens are living among US neighborhoods, causing harm and posing threats to public safety all over the country.

Castellanos-Orellana first crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near Eagle Pass, Texas on October 6th, 2023. After being apprehended by Border Patrol agents, he was given a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge on November 7th, 2023, and was released from DHS custody. The reason stated for his release was a lack of space in the agency’s detention facilities; however, federal data indicates that thousands of beds were available at that time.

Notably, officials at DHS confirmed in Castellanos-Orellana’s case file that he did not express any fear of returning to his home country of Honduras, further complicating why he was released from detention rather than being deported.

Just a few months after his release into the U.S., Castellanos-Orellana allegedly committed the horrific crimes for which he stands accused today. He has been charged with first-degree rape, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and aggravated battery. He currently remains in local police custody without bond, while Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have placed a detainer on him to seek custody.

In their report, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Tom McClintock (R-CA) expressed their disappointment and pointed out that Castellanos-Orellana’s victims will never be the same because the Biden-Harris administration allowed the alleged criminal to enter and remain in the country. Unfortunately, they assert that many more are in a similar situation due to the administration’s flawed policies.
