California Democrats Propose Zero-Interest Mortgages for Illegals

California Democrats are pushing forward to transform the state into an illegal alien sanctuary zone, complete with zero-down mortgages for illegals to purchase housing in the Golden State. Assembly Bill 1840 (AB 1840), which was passed by the California Senate Appropriations Committee, aims to amend the California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loan program to include foreigners.

Authored by Democratic Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, AB 1840 proposes to provide down payment assistance of up to 20% of a home’s purchase price for first-time buyers who are illegal aliens. The loan does not require monthly payments nor accrue interest; only the original loan amount plus 20% of any increase in home value is due when the primary mortgage is refinanced or the house is sold.

With this legislation, illegal alien families can “purchase” homes in California without having to pay a single monthly payment or interest and can live in the home over a lifetime without paying a penny out-of-pocket. This move comes amid a $60 billion budget deficit for California, raising concerns about fiscal responsibility.

Critics argue that the bill prioritizes illegals over residents and citizens, sending those who belong in California to the back of the line while favoring people who traveled there unlawfully. AB 1840 will still need to pass through the Democrat-supermajority state Senate before reaching Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for signing into law.

California’s move is similar to Oregon, where a taxpayer-funded program called Hacienda Community Development Corporation (Hacienda CDC) subsidizes home purchases for low-income residents, provided they are not legal citizens of the United States.
