Kennedy Switches Teams: Aid for Trump’s Campaign

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an estranged Democrat, joined forces with former President Donald Trump in a campaign rally in Arizona, amidst the former president’s bid to ensure Kamala Harris’ defeat. Despite suspending his independent presidential campaign and endorsing Trump, Kennedy maintained that he is not terminating it, and his name will remain on the ballot in most states.

Kennedy’s decision to drop his name from the ballot in 10 battleground states could have a significant impact on Trump’s election chances, as even limited support for him could make a difference in a closely contested race. However, Kennedy’s popularity has been waning, with recent polls showing his support at just 2.

Nonetheless, Kennedy’s presence in the critical swing states is expected to improve dramatically. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll showed him with 6% support in Arizona and Nevada and 5% in Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. These states were decided by fewer than 23,000 votes in the last two presidential elections.

Trump has proposed utilizing Kennedy’s connections to one of America’s most famous political dynasties, possibly as the future CIA Director or District Attorney. The former president also suggested granting Kennedy access to all documents related to JFK’s assassination, as part of an executive commission on presidential assassination attempts.

Another area where Kennedy’s presence could be beneficial is his skepticism of Covid vaccines and mask mandates, which align with the views of many conservative constituents. This stance may help offset Trump’s previous enthusiasm for Covid vaccines, which failed to resonate with his supporters.

Furthermore, Kennedy has been vocal about the media’s control over political processes, criticizing the rise of Kamala Harris based on “nothing.” His influence could attract disaffected voters from across the political spectrum who are disillusioned with the current state of US politics.

While it is unclear how much impact Kennedy will have on the election outcome, his participation in Trump’s campaign could provide enough of a grudge vote to help the former president secure another term in office.
