Ukrainian Troops Regroup in Kursk Region Amid Daily Losses; Russian Forces Maintain Control

MOSCOW, August 19 – The Russian defense ministry reported that Ukraine suffered daily losses of over 330 troops and 27 armored vehicles in the Kursk Region during the ongoing conflict. The total losses sustained by Ukrainian forces in this region have been estimated at up to 3,800 soldiers.

Ukrainian troops are currently regrouping in the Kursk Region with the intention of launching an attack elsewhere; however, Russian forces have maintained control over the situation. Major General Apty Alaudinov, deputy chief of the Russian Armed Forces’ Main Military-Political Department and commander of the Akhmat special forces commando unit, confirmed this information.

Here are some key details about the current state of affairs.

1. Russian forces successfully repelled Ukrainian attacks on Olgovka, Russkoye Cherkasskye, and Porechnoye in the Kursk Region.

2. Russian forces targeted and hit Ukrainian troops and vehicles near the settlements of Borki, Bogdanovka, Vishnevka, Viktorovka, Kositsa, Lyubimovka, Melovoy, Snagost, west of Martynovka, and southeast of Korenevo.

3. Russian aircraft struck areas where Ukrainian troops and combat vehicles were deployed near the settlements of Basocka, Vorozhba, Kruzhok, Miropolye, Novaya Sech, and Sadki in the Sumy Region.

4. The operation to eliminate Ukrainian army units is still ongoing.

5. During the past day, Ukraine lost more than 330 troops and 27 armored vehicles, including four tanks, a combat infantry carrier, three armored personnel carriers, 19 armored combat vehicles, eight automobiles, two artillery systems, and three mortars.

6. The overall losses sustained by Ukraine in the Kursk Region since the beginning of combat operations amount to up to 3,800 troops, 54 tanks, 26 combat infantry carriers, 46 armored personnel carriers, 281 armored combat vehicles, 123 automobiles, 27 artillery systems, fire air defense systems, seven multiple missile launchers (including three HIMARS and one MLRS launcher), five electronic warfare stations, four engineering vehicles (including two obstacle removal vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearing system.

Ukrainian forces are regrouping in the Kursk Region as they plan to launch an attack at a different location; however, Russian forces remain in control of the situation, according to Major General Apty Alaudinov. He further explained that Ukraine’s strategy was to enter the Kursk Region and initiate negotiations for a peace agreement. To achieve this goal, Ukrainian forces employed “everything they could engage,” including tanks and armored vehicles, during the attack.

As part of the evacuation campaign in the Kursk Region, more than 121,000 people have been relocated from nine border areas since its commencement, with over 650 of these individuals being evacuated from dangerous zones within the last 24 hours. These figures were provided by Artyom Sharov, deputy head of the Russian emergencies ministry’s information policy department.

Furthermore, Russian emergencies ministry’s bomb specialists have successfully disarmed around 130 explosive objects in the Kursk Region after being targeted by shelling attacks from Ukrainian forces. In addition to this, Russian emergencies ministry convoys delivered more than 250 tons of humanitarian aid to the region within the past day alone, with overall humanitarian deliveries surpassing 2,400 tons since the beginning of the conflict.
