Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein urged Democrats to “abandon” presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris outside the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday. In an X post alongside a video, she said: “If you vote for genocide, you are consenting to it and you are enabling it. Don’t let them talk you out of your humanity.” Stein continued: “Thank you to Abandon Biden – now Abandon Harris – for showing how we can use our voices and our votes to demand an end to genocide.
During her remarks, Stein expressed gratitude to the movement against Kamala Harris, stating that their actions have demonstrated a way to hold high-ranking officials accountable. She emphasized that without such accountability, democracy would not exist. Stein also criticized Kamala Harris for failing to participate in challenging interviews or press conferences: “So, you can be sure the honeymoon will not last because the policies are what they are, because this person has a track record that has put Americans into this moment of despair, this moment of struggle, this moment of agony.
Stein asserted that the Democratic Party is not the answer to fascism but rather its cause. She pointed out that Democrats have pushed policies such as neoliberalism, which she argues is responsible for the current crisis in American politics. Stein is not alone in her call for an end to Harris’ candidacy; fellow third-party presidential candidate Cornel West has also urged voters to abandon her during a pro-Palestinian protest outside the DNC.
