Trump’s Bold Pledge: Slash Energy Prices by 50% Within a Year

Former President Donald Trump made a bold promise during his Asheville, North Carolina rally on Wednesday that if he were elected back into the Oval Office in November, his administration would cut energy and electricity prices by at least half within twelve months to eighteen months. Trump emphasized this commitment with a tweet from his official account which stated, “I am announcing today that, under my leadership, the U.S. will commit to the ambitious goal of slashing energy and electricity prices by HALF — AT LEAST.

He further added, “We intend to slash prices by half within twelve months, at a maximum eighteen months.” Trump expressed confidence in achieving this target, noting that he has delivered on all his previous promises. He also predicted that energy bills would see a reduction of 50% to 70%, depending on the state and other factors.

This comes as electricity prices in the United States have been on an upward trend, with S&P Global reporting in July that prices had increased by 21.9 percent between 2018 and 2023. Some of the states hit the hardest by these increases include Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and California. Maine experienced a staggering 65.6% increase in electricity prices, while New Hampshire saw an increase of 51.3. Massachusetts faced an increase of 50.5%, followed by Connecticut at 49%, and finally, California with a 47.8% increase.

This promise from Trump reflects his administration’s commitment to addressing energy prices and potentially providing relief for American households struggling with the ongoing rise in costs. If successful, this could significantly impact the lives of millions of Americans who are grappling with high utility bills amidst an already strained economy.
