Harris and Running Mate: A Tour of Swing States

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to reveal her choice for running mate on Tuesday when she and the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate hold their first joint rally in Philadelphia. The two candidates will then embark on a tour of seven swing states over four days, according to Politico. In addition to Philadelphia, they are scheduled to visit western Wisconsin, Detroit, Raleigh, Savannah, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

The campaign has announced that in addition to larger rallies, Harris and her running mate will also engage with voters in smaller settings such as restaurants and union halls. They will be accompanied by local officials at each stop. The campaign says this tour will enable the Vice President and her running mate to directly communicate with voters in their communities, emphasizing the contrast between their ticket and that of incumbent Republican President Donald Trump.

Over the past 48 hours, Harris has been reportedly auditioning potential running mates, according to multiple sources. She reserved time over the weekend to meet with finalists in person before making her final decision, as reported by The New York Times and The Washington Post.

UPI reports that Covington & Burling, a Washington law firm handling the vetting process for Harris, completed its work on Thursday and submitted its findings to her. According to two people briefed on the process, as cited by The Times.

The Washington Post similarly reported, citing unnamed campaign sources, that Harris had narrowed her search down to six finalists: Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.

On Friday, Kamala Harris was officially endorsed by the Democratic Party as their nominee for Vice President after securing a sufficient number of delegates during online voting, as previously reported by Breitbart News. Harris was the only candidate eligible to receive votes after the party closed its qualifying process on Tuesday.
