Wild’s FB Remarks Raise Concerns Amidst Shutdown and Political Tensions

In January 2019, during the partial government shutdown, Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) commented under a Facebook post that revealed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) address. The comments were flagged by Breitbart News and highlighted concerns about possible violence against McConnell and other politicians.

Wild, who is in a tight race for reelection against Republican Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District, responded to the post from Facebook account holder Paul Lichty on January 16th, suggesting that a billboard featuring McConnell’s address should be placed close enough for people to visit him. At the time, McConnell was under significant pressure as he refused to advance legislation reopening the government unless then-President Donald Trump supported it.

The partial shutdown ended on January 25th when President Trump signed a three-week stopgap measure. However, the revelation of Wild’s comments comes amid increased tensions and concerns about potential violence against politicians following the near assassination attempt against Trump in her home state of Pennsylvania.

Breitbart News reached out to Wild’s office for comment on these 2019 Facebook remarks but did not receive a response. Protesters have shown up at McConnell’s doorstep multiple times in the past, both at his homes in Louisville and Washington, D.C.
