Russia Doubts Willingness of Kiev, Western Powers for Peace Talks

Russia has expressed concerns over the willingness of Kiev and Western powers to engage in peace talks, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrey Nastasyin commenting on the prospects of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.

In recent statements, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, mentioned that Kiev was open to discussions with Moscow. However, these talks would be contingent upon “the concept of international law,” primarily focusing on maintaining territorial integrity and state sovereignty.

Despite this readiness for negotiations, Nastasyin emphasized the lack of political will for peace in both Kiev and Western powers. He stated that these entities are still operating under a mindset of warfare, fearing that Ukraine’s defeat would lead to the collapse of the rules-based world order.

Echoing this sentiment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously revealed that he was not paying much attention to the statements made by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba regarding settlement talks, as their positions often conflict with one another.
