Key Democrat Fundraiser Defects from Biden-Harris Ticket, Shakes up Presidential Race

Orlando-based attorney and prominent Democrat bundler John Morgan has announced that he will not fundraise for Vice President Kamala Harris, a significant setback for her campaign as she struggles to take control of President Joe Biden’s campaign machinery and overtake Donald Trump in the race to the nomination. This decision follows Biden’s surprising announcement that he would end his re-election campaign despite securing the nomination with over 14 million primary votes.

In a fiery post on social media, Morgan stated that he will not seek to regain the “million” he had raised for the Biden-Harris ticket and expressed disappointment with Harris’ nomination. He also acknowledged that her nomination was inevitable but mentioned that she would not be his first choice for the position.

Morgan previously told ABC News that he would not fundraise for Harris if she were the nominee, stating, “If Trump World could pick anybody to run against, I think they pick her.” He also shared on social media a list of alternative candidates, including Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV), Govs. Andy Beshear (D-KY), Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), and Josh Shapiro (D-PA.

Despite the dissatisfaction among some Democrats, the party has largely come together around Harris as the nominee, with no other prominent Democrat expressing interest in running for president. Manchin had reportedly considered a run but ruled it out on Monday morning. Morgan even suggested that Biden’s endorsement of Harris was intended to lock her in place despite her perceived inability to win the election.

This turn of events has created uncertainty and chaos within the Democratic Party as they scramble to reorganize their campaign strategy without the support of a key bundler like John Morgan. The outcome of the presidential race remains uncertain, with many Democrats hoping that Michelle Obama could step in as a potential candidate who would win in a landslide against any of the listed alternatives.

As Kamala Harris continues to navigate this tumultuous period, it is crucial for her campaign team to regain momentum and demonstrate their ability to compete effectively with Donald Trump. The coming months will be critical in determining whether she can overcome these challenges and secure the Democratic nomination for the presidency.
