Harris Campaign: $81M in 24 Hours

Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign broke fundraising records within 24 hours of its launch by raising a staggering $81 million in donations. The impressive figure, announced by the Harris campaign, revealed that more than 888,000 “grassroots donors” had contributed to the cause, with over 60% being first-time contributors during the 2024 presidential election. Furthermore, around 43,000 people pledged to make recurring donations to Harris’s campaign.

Kevin Munoz, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, stated in a press release that “Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of talking to the voters that will decide this election.” The funds raised by Harris’s campaign were reportedly a combination of money gathered by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Harris campaign itself, and other joint fundraising committees.

This record-breaking achievement occurred shortly after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race in a statement on X, citing that it would be “in the best interest” of the Democrat Party for him to focus solely on fulfilling his duties as president. Following this announcement, Biden endorsed Harris as the party’s presidential nominee, prompting several prominent Democrats – including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA), former Presidents Bill and Hillary Clinton, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA), Gov. Josh Shapiro (PA), Gov. Wes Moore (MD), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), and Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY) – to issue statements expressing their support for Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.

Despite these endorsements, RealClearPolitics polling average has found that Harris’s favorability rating is lower than Biden’s. Nevertheless, her campaign continues to gain momentum and attract more donors, demonstrating a strong and diverse coalition supporting her bid for the presidency.
