Burchett Slams Secret Service Chief at House Hearing: A Blow to Protecting Trump

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) publicly criticized President Joe Biden’s Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle during Monday’s House Oversight Committee hearing on the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. In his remarks, Burchett referred to Cheatle as a “DEI horror story” and said that if he had the power, he would have her fired.

The congressman’s comments followed a series of questions he asked Cheatle that she failed to answer. Among these questions was why Trump was allowed on stage ten minutes after the Secret Service spotted a suspicious individual, as well as whether the Secret Service informed Trump about the suspicious person before he was shot at during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Burchett expressed concern over the communication breakdown between the Secret Service and President Trump, stating that it is unacceptable for there to be such delays when a president’s safety could be at stake. He also questioned the methodology behind assigning agents to various events, specifically pointing out how it nearly led to Trump’s assassination.

When asked about the security detail guarding Trump during his convention speech compared to the one in Pennsylvania, Cheatle explained that the personnel assigned to the former president work in shifts and may not be present at every event. Burchett countered this by pointing out inconsistencies in the agents’ presence at the two events in question.

As reported by Breitbart News, Kimberly Cheatle was subpoenaed after failing to prevent a sniper from shooting at Trump during his July 13th rally in Pennsylvania. Despite calls for her resignation, she has no intention of stepping down and continues to report to U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who has also faced impeachment allegations.
