United for Change: Governor Shapiro Backs Kamala Harris for Presidential Nominee

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) has publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the potential Democrat Party’s presidential nominee, calling her a “patriot worthy” of the party’s support and that of voters. In his statement issued Sunday night, Shapiro mentioned that he has known Harris for almost two decades, noting that uniting behind Harris is the best way forward for the Democratic Party.

Shapiro’s endorsement arrived shortly after President Joe Biden announced that it was in the party’s best interest for him not to seek re-election and instead offer his full support and endorsement for Kamala Harris as the nominee. Shapiro highlighted his personal connection with Harris, stating they both had careers as prosecutors and have fought for the rule of law and people’s rights. He also praised her work as Vice President, asserting she is ready to be President.

The statement issued by Shapiro follows a period of turbulence within the Democratic Party after Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race. Several prominent Democrats, including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) have publicly endorsed Harris as the party’s nominee. However, other key figures such as former President Barack Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have yet to voice their support for a particular candidate.

Shapiro emphasized that unifying behind Kamala Harris is crucial in securing victory in November’s election. He expressed his commitment to doing everything in his power to help elect her as the 47th President of the United States, stating that “the road to victory runs right through Pennsylvania – where this collective work began.
