Kamala’s Election Challenge: A New Rivalry Unfolds

Vice President Kamala Harris may become a more appealing opponent for former President Donald Trump in the November election, following Joe Biden’s decision not to run for re-election. Trump expressed his belief that Harris would be easier to defeat than Biden would have been during an interview with CNN on Sunday.

Biden announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed Harris as his replacement shortly after. However, it is unclear whether Harris can secure the nomination, given her current 36 percent approval rating according to FiveThirtyEight.

Former President Trump criticized both Biden and Harris during a phone call with CNN minutes after the announcement. He referred to Joe Biden as “the worst president in the history of our country” and expressed doubts about his potential nomination for the upcoming election.

In addition, Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter to slam Kamala Harris, calling her “more liberal and less competent than Joe.” Trump’s skepticism regarding Biden and Harris’s nominations highlights the uncertainty surrounding the Democratic Party’s candidates for the 2024 race.

Other potential candidates to replace Biden at the top of the ticket include Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom (D-CA), J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI. A recent internal survey conducted by Fernand Amandi found that both Harris and Clinton led Trump in a hypothetical matchup, while Newsom and Whitmer trailed the former president.

As the 2024 election season heats up, it remains to be seen which candidate will emerge as the Democratic nominee and whether they can effectively challenge Donald Trump or any other potential Republican candidates.
