Netanyahu’s Grip Strengthens Amid War Against Hamas

As Israel continues its war against the Iran-backed Islamic terror group Hamas, domestic support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his right-wing Likud Party is growing. A recent poll conducted by Direct Polls revealed that if elections were held now, Netanyahu’s Likud Party would receive 28 mandates, an increase of four mandates from the previous poll. This rise in support can be attributed largely to Netanyahu’s stance against Hamas and his opposition to a Palestinian state, despite U.S. and domestic pressures.

The survey showed that if a contest for prime minister were held between Netanyahu and centrist rival Benny Gantz, Netanyahu would be the favored candidate, with 48 percent support compared to Gantz’s 28 percent. In addition, Gantz’s National Unity Party came in far second, receiving only 16 mandates.

The surge in Netanyahu’s support demonstrates that Israelis value victory over every other goal, as explained by conservative American-Israeli columnist Caroline Glick. She pointed out that the latest polls show that “Israelis value victory over every other goal.” The poll utilized a digital system combined with a panel and sampled 779 adults (18+) representing Israel’s general population, with a statistical sampling error of ± 4.0 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

As Israel faces threats from Iranian proxies, including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and militias in Iraq and Syria, domestic support for Netanyahu’s right-wing policies remains strong. This rise in support comes as Israel continues to battle against these threats, such as the recent explosion near the former U.S. embassy on the beachfront in Tel Aviv, which was reportedly caused by an upgraded Iranian drone fired by the Houthis.

The poll results indicate that Netanyahu’s Likud Party is gaining significant traction over Gantz’s centrist party in the country’s parliament, signaling a shift towards more right-wing policies in Israel. As the war against Hamas continues, it seems that Israeli citizens are placing their trust and support in Prime Minister Netanyahu and his strong stance on national security issues.
