Top Democrat powerbrokers are reportedly working to end President Joe Biden’s political career, according to multiple media sources. This move increases pressure on the president to step aside from the presidential race, as some fear that his refusal to quit could lead to significant losses in down-ballot races. These losses have the potential to reshape Congress for decades, giving Republicans control of typically blue-leaning Senate and House seats.
In recent days, several reports have emerged that highlight concerns about President Biden’s reelection campaign and its impact on the Democratic Party. For instance, CNN reported that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told Biden he cannot win reelection and is jeopardizing down-ballot races due to his refusal to quit the race. Similarly, ABC News’ Jon Karl suggested that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) personally informed Biden that he needed to step down from the race.
Additionally, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), a prominent Democrat conspiracy theorist, demanded that President Biden step down due to “serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump.” He argued that it is time for Biden to pass the torch and indicated that donor money was starting to dry up for the campaign.
Former President Barack Obama also reportedly told “allies” that Biden needs to seriously consider his viability in the race, according to the Washington Post. However, his spokesperson declined to comment on this matter. Before Thursday, Obama stated that the decision for Biden to stay in the race is ultimately up to the president himself.
Despite these reports and private circulations of concerning polling numbers, some believe President Biden will not be compelled to step down due to a lack of character traits that would force him to do so. For instance, Breitbart News’ Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow noted that no member of Biden’s inner circle has publicly broken with him. Furthermore, it appears that the president does not care about media coverage or public humiliation.
These concerns raised by Democrat powerbrokers come as a potential threat to the Democratic Party’s chances in the upcoming elections. Recent polling from Blue Rose Research shows only 18 percent of voters believe Biden is mentally fit, with 36 percent of those who voted for him in 2020 sharing this sentiment. The Associated Press/NORC poll found that approximately two-thirds of Democrats want President Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
