Trump’s Lead Surges Amid Assassination Attempt: New Poll Results

Former President Donald Trump’s lead over President Joe Biden has increased by five points nationally, according to a recent poll conducted by CBS News between July 16 and 18. The survey involved 2,247 registered voters and showed that if the election were held today, 52 percent of respondents would vote for Trump compared to 47 percent for Biden. These results indicate an increase in Trump’s lead from a previous poll conducted by CBS News on July 3, which showed him with a two-point advantage over his opponent.

The recent poll also asked participants whether the assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday made them more or less likely to vote for him. Twenty-six percent of respondents said they were “more likely” to consider voting for Trump, while seven percent said they were “less likely.” However, 67 percent expressed that there had been “no change” in their decision.

When questioned about the impact of Trump’s actions on national unity after the recent assassination attempt, 54 percent of voters believed that he had pushed for “more unity,” while 46 percent felt he had pushed for “more division.” The poll results come shortly after Trump was shot with a bullet in his right ear during the rally in Pennsylvania.
