The Economist Calls for Biden’s Departure: Time to Make Way for a New Leader

The British weekly magazine, The Economist, has called for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential election. According to the publication, both Biden and his party portray themselves as saviors of democracy when their actions suggest otherwise. In addition, the debate between the “befuddled old man” and former President Donald Trump was seen as damaging for Biden, with the subsequent cover-up even worse. The article criticized the presidential campaign’s dishonesty, which provoked contempt among the public.

The Economist argued that incumbent President Joe Biden deserves to be remembered for his accomplishments and decency rather than his decline, agreeing with senior Democrats who have openly called for the president to step aside. The magazine highlighted that people can no longer be deceived by cover-ups from mainstream media, the Biden campaign, and his family. It also pointed out that Biden’s mental state may not be capable of leading a superpower nation through cues and scripts alone, let alone managing an international crisis.

The publication first warned in 2022 that Biden should not seek re-election due to his age, suggesting that a fresh candidate would have a better chance of winning against former President Donald Trump. The Economist believes that such candidates would be fit to govern and could deprive Trump of some of his strongest arguments against Biden, such as inflation, immigration, and the supposed “witch-hunt” leading to Trump’s prosecution.

In an attempt to prepare for radio interviews following his disastrous debate performance, President Joe Biden’s campaign team provided lists of approved questions to two radio hosts. Radio host Earl Ingram revealed that he received a list of four questions from the Biden campaign in advance, with no negotiation permitted. White House and campaign officials maintain that providing interview questions is not standard practice and will not be repeated going forward.
