Trump’s Rising Black Voter Support: A Surprise Twist

The recent July survey from Cygnal revealed that corrupt President Joe Biden is losing significant support among black voters. In a post-debate survey, former President Donald Trump held a seven-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup with 48 percent support to Biden’s 41 percent. More than half of the voters who watched the debate said they would vote for Trump (51%) over Biden (38.

Even when third-party candidates are included, Trump continues to lead Biden by seven percentage points — 45 percent to Biden’s 38 percent support. In May, only one point separated the two in this same scenario. The survey further highlights that Biden has lost ten points among independents and 19 points among black voters since May. In contrast, Trump has seen a two-point bump among independents and a four-point bump among black voters during the same period.

In a head-to-head matchup between Trump and Biden, Trump leads by eight points among independents, while Biden sees 51 percent support among black respondents, with Trump seeing 28 percent support. This aligns with a CBS News/YouGov poll released in late June that also showed significant gains for Trump among black voters, garnering 23 percent support. Exit polling in 2020 revealed only 12 percent of black voters supported Trump, an increase from eight percent in 2016.

These results coincide with the CBS News/YouGov poll released in late June, which also showed significant gains for Trump among black voters, garnering 23 percent support. In comparison to exit polling from the 2020 election, Trump’s support among black voters has nearly doubled.

The Cygnal survey was conducted from June 30 to July 1, 2024, among 1,515 likely general election voters and comes as Trump continues his efforts to grow his base by appealing to voters in traditional Democrat strongholds that have experienced the negative impact of mass illegal immigration and a struggling economy.

During a viral rally in the Bronx in May, Trump emphasized his administration’s achievements for black Americans, stating, “We had gasoline down to $1.87. We had a record low poverty rate for black Americans and Hispanic Americans.” He continued by highlighting how these issues are negatively impacting both black and Hispanic populations who are losing jobs and housing due to mass immigration.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) Platform Committee officially adopted Trump’s 2024 Republican Party Platform, which directly addresses the pressing concerns of mass illegal immigration and its effects on the economy, particularly for black and Hispanic populations. The platform aims to provide solutions that will help these communities recover and prosper in the years to come.
